avocado salad with carrot ginger dressing!

the delicious salad dressing you get at japanese restaurants has always intrigued me. now i’m gonna make it!! i’m pumped that i even have all the ingredients at home already!

for the dressing you need:

1 large carrot, peeled and roughly chopped

1 small shallot, peeled and roughly chopped

2 tablespoons roughly chopped fresh ginger

2 tablespoons sweet white miso

2 tablespoons rice vinegar

2 tablespoons toasted sesame seed oil

1/4 cup grapeseed or another neutral oil

2 tablespoons water

and the salad:

1 small/medium head of lettuce (I used Bibb) or mixed greens of your choice

1/4 red onion, thinly sliced

1 avocado, quartered

incredible meal at GUU!

i went to the bloor street location of GUU last night and had a very delicious and memorable meal. i’d been meaning to go for so long and the expectations were high. for me highlight was probably the lightly grilled tuna sashimi and for jeff it was the black cod. we also ordered beef udon, baked scallops and tempura shrimp….as well as some beer and cocktails. really delicious, i highly, highly recommend it. i wanna go back ASAP!

here we go yo… nasu dengaku

alright i’m going to try it tonight. i LOVE eating grilled eggplant with miso in japanese restaurants…so sweet and smokey… and it seems easy enough to make so i shall tackle it tonight. i’ve decided not to follow a recipe (because i’m a cooking badass) and i’m just going to cut the eggplant in half, criss cross it like the pic above (because it’s pretty), smother it with miso paste and throw it on the bbq. hope it works!
